CONTENTS page analysis #1

KERRANG MAGAZINE

The masthead of the contents page gives the name of the magazine, the title of the page, along with the issue number and date. The title is written in the same font as the name of the magazine, in a black font, all in capitals, with a cracked style. This style gives the magazine consistency and makes the title stand out further. The issue number and date are written in a smaller font in the top right hand corner, showing that they are not as important to the rest of the content.

The main image is of the band Metallica, as the image relates to the competition that the band is featuring in, and is spoken about in the text below the image. Despite being the main image on the contents page, the main feature of this issue is on Biffy Clyro, as featured on its front page.

The term, 'Win!' is written in red text, as well as the name of Metallica, but is outlined in white and is upon a yellow background. This makes it stand out, popping out to the reader and attracting them with the idea of winning a prize.

There is a clear colour scheme on the contents page, of yellow, red, black and white, which is seen in the contents column of the contents page. The subheadings are written in a bold, yellow font upon a black background, with the page numbers in red along with the artist or article title in black upon the white background. The consistency of having a clear colour schemes will not confuse the reader, and they can allocate particular sections of the contents page to a colour.

The photograph in the bottom left hand corner is of the editor of the magazine, and relates to the editor's note, which welcomes the reader to the magazine and gives a personal touch as to the magazine's content. An editor's note is found on the contents page of all issues of Kerrang!, so keeps the magazine consistent for its regular readers

The bottom right shows an advertisement for Kerrang!'s subscription service to regular readers, offering a set, standard price for a number of issues, often delivered through the post. The blue background of this advertisement separates it from the rest of the contents on the contents page, making it stand out to the reader.
