FIRST/FINAL DRAFTS - MAKING IMPROVEMENTS

FRONT PAGE:

WAYS OF IMPROVEMENT:

One of the main things that I wanted to change was how the cover lines were justified. Through making the cover lines left aligned if on the left hand side, and right aligned if on the right hand side,it would create unseen borders and look as if the text is being pushed out from the edges. This was a theme commonly seen in the research stages, especially for MOJO magazine. Also, I wanted to reduce the number of cover lines on the front page. I felt as if this look was far more sophisticated as it keeps more of the magazine's contents reserved until the reader opens the magazine. A third change I wanted to make was to the name of the artist 'Scarlett Moore'. It was important for me that the name was big and bold, and was close to the face of the main image. This is a key way that the reader associates the name to the picture. Yet, the blue text did not fit the colour scheme of the magazine or it's house style. I also realised that I needed to rectify the fact that the draft did not include the price of the magazine.

WAYS OF IMPROVEMENT:

I found that although I felt confident in both my front page and contents page, seeing them next to one another showed that they had little in common. This was something that needed addressing as it is vital that a house style is maintained. The fonts on the contents did not match that of the front page, and page numbers needed to be checked over. In addition, the contents page failed to convey the genre of music of the magazine, nor did it give significance to it's most important aspects. A key way of improving on these mistakes was to change the fonts, their sizes and check that all colours fit the colour scheme seen on the front page.
