JENNY FORREST
TEST FOOTAGE
We have collated several clips of test footage at the beginning of filming on set, each day. These ensured that we were comfortable with the cameras we were using, to make sure the conditions we were working with looked their best on camera , so that if any changes needed to be made, they could be. We also took this opportunity to make mistakes, making sure footage would be filmed in focus for example, so that when filming footage to be used for the actual music video, it would look it's best and no time would be wasted. These clips were filmed whilst the members of the band were getting ready, so that we were not wasting anyone's time, and have been edited to remove any background noise.
FOCUS
In order for Uchechi to film close-up shots of the band performing all in focus, she needed to spend a period of time filming, using manual focus to achieve a shallow focus, The period of time tested that it would stay in focus throughout. Any mistakes made here would avoid them being made when filming the band for the music video.
LIGHTING
We realised that with the environment of the studio, we needed to ensure the best lighting to show all members fully on camera. We could not take many of our own lights, other than fairy lights, so this shows us testing all the lights in the room in various combinations, to see what looked best on camera. Uchechi was behind the camera, focusing it every time the lights had been changed, whilst I was offering the variations. The fairy lights are turned on throughout, and we decided to turn on just the back lights with them.
LOCATIONS
On the second shoot day, myself and Uchechi arrived earlier than our cast member, so we took the opportunity to film in potential locations along the seafront. This gave us a better idea of what we can film where, and so upon the artist's arrival, we could start filming straight away, wasting no time.
SMOKE BOMBS
We hadn't had the open space to test the smoke bombs we had bought in the time between their arrival and prior to the film day. Despite many attempts to follow videos of tutorials and using the instructions, we realised we could not use the smoke bombs in our music video. The sheer quantity needed to achieve the intended result was too great, and they did not burn for long enough.
